Teacher's Day! Gangwon-do teachers' a cappella album
In times that are becoming increasingly harsh, an a cappella album that talks softly about this world is released. Containing a total of eight songs, this album is the first work of 'Byeor-ui-byeol,' an a cappella group composed of Gangwon-do teachers, ahead of its official release on Teacher's Day, May 15. The teachers wrote the lyrics and composed all the songs containing small stories happening at school and around us, singing them in a cappella through their voices.
'Let's Go to School' and 'A Spring Day of a Twelve-Year-Old'...
'Let's Go to School,' the title of the album and the title track, represents the color of this record best. It captures the hearts of children who regret the end of the weekend, look forward to vacations, and love school lunches and P.E. class.
The last track, 'Happy School,' is a song where one can feel the heart of a teacher wishing for our children to live happily at school, where they nurture dreams and meet friends. A scene comes to mind of children running around in the schoolyard and a classroom where sharing and peace are learned. 'A Spring Day of a Twelve-Year-Old' and 'Ginkgo Leaves in April' are songs full of the scent of spring. They contain the story of twelve-year-old children that brings to mind fond memories of the short story 'Rain Shower,' and the message that ginkgo leaves are pretty enough even if they are not golden. After listening to 'Let's Go to the Garden Plot' and 'That's How It Usually Is,' you will be able to greatly feel the hearts of children. The lyrics were made with children's writings, and music was added like an apple dropping suddenly from the sky to make songs. One can feel sweat and the precious values of small things. 'That My Words Become a Song' and 'Deep, Sea' are monologues spoken to us of this era. They make us think once again that all my words, writings, and songs are not easy. 'Deep, Sea' sang an apologetic heart to the ship that sank into the sea in April 2014 and the children.
An encounter between an original cultural space, a Grammy Award-winning music director, and a popular children's book author
Recording and mixing were worked on at 'Gamjagot Studio' in Pyeongchang. Befitting the name studio, it is a place where cultural and artistic activities including always good photographs and music take place. As a space created by remodeling a closed school, it has been successfully conducting various cultural and arts education activities in Korea for over 10 years.
The mastering of the album was completed by director Hwang Byeong-joon, the first Korean to win a total of two Grammy Awards for Best Engineered Album. Director Hwang Byeong-joon's finishing touch, which is elevating the dignity of Korean music to the next level in film music and live recordings, made the natural a cappella of high completion.
The album design was joined by author Sun Mi-hwa, who wrote the illustrated essay book 'Someone Cheering for You,' which has been receiving great acclaim as a book that comforts the heart and gives strength. The feelings toward children and school also match the author's illustrations very well.

Min Byung-hee, Superintendent of Gangwon-do Office of Education, conveyed the words, 'The songs of Byeor-ui-byeol make us love children even more.' We look forward to music that will foster a heart to love children more, not only for teachers but for all adults of this era.
On Teacher's Day, May 15, 2015, Byeor-ui-byeol will hold a concert commemorating the first album release at Book Cafe Millimeter in Chuncheon! Also, starting with small schools in Gangwon-do in the fall, they plan to set out to deliver songs to other regions as well.
■ Track Introduction
1. Let's Go to School
Do children know? That teachers also feel like not wanting to go to school on Mondays, and wait for vacation more than anyone else... If a place called school only meant having to sit rigidly at a desk and study, it would be boring, but if together with friends, it is also joyful and happy. That is why school is still the living ground of children. A school where children want to come, a school where learning is joyful and meeting friends is happy. I, too, dream of such a school.
2. Ginkgo Leaves in April
Everyone would remember only the autumn ginkgo tree dyed yellow, but another charm is hidden in the spring ginkgo tree. That is none other than the newly born ginkgo leaf! Looking at the thumbnail-sized ginkgo leaves sprouting greenish-green, they are so cute like a baby who just started babbling that one feels like giving them a playful bite. Dyeing the streets yellow and showering ginkgo leaves is only for a brief moment in autumn, but meeting light green ginkgo leaves is also only for this brief moment. Most people remember only glamorous times, but in fact, that time which looks small and humble might be more precious. Just as it is, it is also beautiful.
3. Deep Sea
April 16, 2014. The sinking of the passenger ferry Sewol. It was a great sorrow. We hoped they could be rescued, but the scenes broadcast live on the news were entirely irresponsible and incompetent. In the meantime, the sea brutally swallowed even earnest tears and prayers. An incident where all citizens became witnesses. However, it is not over yet. Uncovering the truth remains, and victims still remain in the freezing sea. What I can do is not forgetting—starting with that.
4. A Spring Day of a Twelve-Year-Old
The fresh love story of a twelve-year-old girl who fell in love for the first time. Taking a gentle peek into a diary written letter by letter with excitement. An age where one encounters those perplexing emotions for the first time—becoming shy over nothing, smiling aimlessly even while staying still, and feeling sorrowful over insignificant things: twelve years old. Harboring in the heart one beautiful memory that will never be forgotten for a lifetime.
5. Let's Go to the Garden Plot
A garden plot is expressed as being 'tended.' Is it because it is the work of caring for life? In spring, I level the ground with children, plant seedlings, and wait for new sprouts to emerge. We must water them and pull weeds so they can grow well. We look forward to it, but also grow tired from the long wait. When the days fill up like that, the garden plot after summer is full of green and the fruits ripen. Children excitedly harvest, forgetting the hardship once again, saying it is the most delicious sweet potato in the world without even tasting it. Boundless affection for the harvest infused with their own devotion and effort. And that leads to respect and gratitude for those who always work sweating like this. It is precious learning for both teachers and children. I realize anew what a tremendous education it is for children to experience things 'on their own' and 'directly.' Speaking of which, to become a true teacher, one must first build up physical stamina.
6. That My Words Become a Song
The moment I decided to write song lyrics, I could not write any words. Although it would be great if my song delivered joy and happiness to people, I could neither pretend to be pretty without reason nor pretend not to know painful and bad things. I was cautious. Since my words would become a song and reach others, shouldn't I be able to take responsibility? And shouldn't it become empathy and comfort? Tossing and turning all night, I write down letter by letter. Constantly looking into the world and my heart with a clear and warm gaze... My song began like that.
7. That's How It Usually Is
Something that rarely becomes familiar even after meeting children for several years: that is farewell. Although I know well that the time given with these children is only one year and that we must part in February, it is inevitably sad on the last day. I want to send them off coolly, but tears flow indiscreetly. Regret and gratitude, relief and sadness are always tangled together. Though sad, we cannot hold them by our side forever. Holding onto joyful memories, I only hope they live in a bigger world with that strength. Repeating meeting and parting, we grow.
8. Happy School
When I suddenly face the reality of this world where children set their feet, there are times I feel sorrowful. Competitive education that makes them unable to dream of anything other than entrance exams, school culture conditioned by authority and hierarchy, the reality where money takes precedence over everything... In such a world, to protect children's dreams, I realized that I must protect myself first. So that my teaching does not become a lie, I repeatedly pledge to live firmly shouting 'dreams, love, sweat' in my life and toward the world.

스승의 날! 강원도 교사 아카펠라 음반
갈수록 각박해지는 시절, 이 세상에 대해 조근조근 이야기하는 아카펠라 음반이 발매된다. 총 여덟 곡이 수록되어 있는 이 음반은 강원도 선생님들로 이루어진 아카펠라 그룹 <별의별>의 첫 번째 작품으로 오는 5월 15일 스승의 날 정식 발매를 앞두고 있다. 학교에서, 우리 주변에서 일어나고 있는 소소한 이야기를 담은 곡을 전부 선생님들이 작사•작곡하고 그들의 목소리릍 통하여 아카펠라로 노래했다.
‘학교가자’와 ‘열두 살의 봄날’...
음반의 제목이자 타이틀곡인 ‘학교가자’는 이 음반의 색을 가장 잘 나타내고 있다. 주말을 아쉬워하고, 방학을 기다리고, 점심 급식과 체육시간을 좋아하는 아이들의 마음을 담았다.
마지막 곡 ‘행복한 학교’는 우리 아이들에게 꿈을 키우고 친구를 만나는 학교에서 행복하게 살아가자는 선생님의 마음이 느껴지는 노래다. 운동장에서 뛰어노는 아이들과 나눔과 평화를 배우는 교실의 한 풍경이 떠오른다. ‘열두 살의 봄날’과 ‘4월의 은행잎’은 봄내음이 가득한 노래다. 소설 ‘소나기’의 애틋한 추억이 떠오르기도 하는 열두 살 아이들의 이야기와 황금빛 은행잎이 아니어도 충분히 예쁘다는 내용을 담았다. ‘텃밭가자’와 ‘원래 다 그런 거래’는 듣고 나면 아이들의 마음을 크게 느낄 수 있을 것이다. 아이들의 글로 가사를 만들고 하늘에서 뚝 떨어진 사과처럼 곡을 붙여 노래로 만들었다. 땀과 작은 것에 대한 소중한 가치들을 느낄 수 있다. ‘나의 말이 노래가 된다는 것’, ‘깊은, 바다’는 이 시대의 우리들에게 하는 독백이다. 내가 하는 말과 글과 노래가 모두 쉽지 않다는 것을 다시 한 번 생각하게 한다. ‘깊은, 바다’는 2014년 4월 바다에 가라앉은 배와 아이들에게 미안한 마음을 노래했다.
독창적 문화 공간과 그래미상 수상 음악감독, 인기 동화 작가의 만남
녹음과 믹싱은 평창의 <감자꽃스튜디오>에서 작업되었다. 스튜디오라는 이름에 걸맞게 항상 좋은 사진과 음악을 포함한 문화예술 활동이 이루어지는 곳이다. 폐교를 개조하여 만든 공간으로, 10년이 넘게 우리나라의 각종 문화예술 교육활동을 성공적으로 진행하고 있다.
음반의 마스터링은 한국인 최초로 총 2회 그래미상 녹음상을 수상한 황병준 감독이 마무리 했다. 영화음악, 라이브 녹음 등 우리나라 음악의 품격을 한 단계 높이고 있는 황병준 감독의 마무리는 자연의 아카펠라를 완성도 높게 만들었다.
음반의 디자인은 마음을 위로하고 힘을 주는 책으로 큰 호평을 받고 있는 ‘당신을 응원하는 누군가’ 라는 그림 에세이 책을 쓴 선미화 작가가 함께 했다. 아이들과 학교에 대한 마음이 작가의 그림과도 매우 잘 어울린다.

지금, 내 곁의 아이들이 더 행복하길 바라는 마음을 담은 별별 목소리들의 화창한 어울림입니다. 자꾸 듣다보면, 아이들을 더욱 사랑하고 싶어지는 마력이 있습니다.
강원도 교육감
민병희 강원도 교육감은 ‘별의별 노래는 아이들을 더욱 사랑하게 만든다’는 말을 전했다. 교사 뿐 아니라 이 시대의 모든 어른들이 아이들을 더 사랑하는 마음을 키워줄 음악이 기대된다.
별의별은 2015년 5월 15일 스승의날 춘천의 북까페 밀리미터에서 첫 음반발매 기념 콘서트를 가진다! 또 가을, 강원도의 작은 학교들을 시작으로 다른 지역으로도 곡을 전하러 나설 예정이다.
■ 곡소개
1.학교가자
아이들은 알까? 선생님도 월요일엔 학교 가기 싫다는 생각이 들기도 하고, 누구보다 방학을 기다리기도 한다는 걸... 학교라는 곳이 꼼짝없이 책상에 앉아 공부만 해야 한다면 지겹겠지만 친구들과 함께라면 즐겁고 행복하기도 하다. 그래서 학교는 여전히 아이들의 삶터이다. 아이들이 오고 싶은 학교, 배움이 즐겁고 친구들과의 만남이 행복한 학교. 나 역시 그런 학교를 꿈꾼다.
2.4월의 은행잎
누구나 노랗게 물든 가을의 은행나무만을 기억할테지만 봄날의 은행나무에는 또 다른 매력이 숨어있다. 바로 갓 태어난 은행잎! 초록초록 돋아난 엄지 손톱만한 은행잎을 보고 있자면 이제 막 옹알이를 시작한 아기처럼 귀여워 깨물어주고 싶은 마음이 든다. 거리를 노랗게 물들이며 은행비를 뿌리는 것도 가을 한 때이지만, 연두색 은행잎을 만날 수 있는 것도 지금 한 때이다. 대게 화려한 시절만을 기억하지만, 사실 작고 보잘 것 없어 보이는 그 때가 더 소중할지도 모른다. 그저 그대로의 모습도 역시 아름답다.
3.깊은바다
2014년 4월 16일. 여객선 세월호의 침몰. 큰 슬픔이었다. 구조될 수 있을 것이라 희망했지만 뉴스에서 생중계되는 장면들은 온통 무책임하고 무능력한 모습뿐이었다. 그 사이 바다는 간절한 눈물과 기도조차 무참히 삼켜버렸다. 국민 모두가 목격자가 되어 버린 사건. 그러나 아직 끝나지 않았다. 진상규명이 남았고, 차디찬 바다에도 희생자들이 남아있다. 내가 할 수 있는 것은 잊지 않는 것, 그것부터이다.
4.열두살의 봄날
첫사랑에 빠진 열두 살 소녀의 풋풋한 사랑 이야기. 한 글자 한 글자 설레며 써내려간 일기장을 슬쩍 들춰본다. 아무것도 아닌 일에 부끄러워지고, 가만히 있어도 괜스레 웃음이 나고, 별것 아닌 것에도 서러워지는 그 당혹스러운 감정들을 처음 마주하게 되는 나이, 열두 살. 평생 잊지 못할 예쁜 추억 하나를 가슴에 품는다.
5.텃밭가자
텃밭은 '가꾸다'라고 표현한다. 생명을 돌보는 일이기 때문에 그런 것일까? 봄이면 아이들과 땅을 고르고 모종을 심고 새싹이 나기를 기다린다. 잘 자랄 수 있도록 물도 주어야하고 잡초도 뽑아주어야 한다. 기대도 되지만 긴 기다림에 지치기도 한다. 그렇게 날들이 차면 여름이 지난 텃밭은 초록으로 가득하고 열매는 여문다. 먹어보지도 않고 세상에서 제일 맛있는 고구마라며 또다시 힘든 것을 잊고 신나게 거둬들이는 아이들. 자신의 정성과 노력이 묻어난 수확물에 대한 무한한 애정. 그리고 그것은 늘 이렇게 땀 흘리며 일하는 분들에 대한 존경과 감사의 마음으로 이어진다. 교사에게도, 아이들에게도 소중한 배움이다. 아이들이 '스스로', '직접' 해보는 경험이 얼마나 어마어마한 교육인지를 새삼 느낀다. 그래서 말인데, 참교사가 되려면 일단 체력을 길러야 한다.
6.나의말이 노래가 된다는 것
노랫말을 써야겠다고 마음먹은 순간, 아무 말도 쓸 수가 없었다. 나의 노래가 사람들에게 기쁨과 행복을 전해주면 좋겠지만 무턱대고 예쁜 척을 할 수도, 아프고 나쁜 것을 모르는 척 할 수도 없었기 때문이다. 조심스러웠다. 나의 말이 노래가 되어 다른 이에게 닿을 텐데, 책임질 수 있어야 하지 않을까? 그리고 공감과 위로가 되어야 하지 않을까? 밤새 뒤척이며 한 글자 한 글자 적어간다. 세상과 나의 마음을 분명하고 따뜻한 시선으로 끊임없이 들여다보며... 나의 노래는 그렇게 시작되었다.
7.원래 다 그런거래
몇 해째 아이들을 만나면서도 좀처럼 익숙해지지 않는 것. 바로 이별이다. 이 아이들과 주어진 시간은 1년 뿐 이라는 것을, 2월이면 헤어져야 한다는 것쯤은 잘 알고 있지만 그래도 마지막 날에는 슬프기 마련이다. 쿨 하게 보내주고 싶지만 주책맞게도 눈물이 흐른다. 아쉬움과 고마움, 시원함과 섭섭함이 늘 뒤엉킨다. 슬프지만 언제까지나 나의 곁에 붙잡아 둘 수는 없는 법. 즐거웠던 추억들을 간직한 채, 그 힘으로 더욱 큰 세상을 살아가기를 바랄 뿐. 만남과 헤어짐을 반복하며 우리는 자란다.
8.행복한 학교
문득 아이들이 발 딛고 있는 이 세상의 모습을 마주하게 될 때면 서글퍼질 때가 있다. 입시 외에는 다른 것을 꿈꿀 수 없게 만드는 경쟁교육, 권위와 서열로 길들이는 학교 문화, 돈이 모든 것에 우선하는 현실... 이러한 세상에서 아이들의 꿈을 지켜주려면 먼저 나 스스로를 지켜야 한다는 것을 알았다. 나의 가르침이 거짓이 되지 않도록 나의 삶 속에서, 또 세상을 향해서 ‘꿈, 사랑, 땀’을 꿋꿋하게 외치며 살겠다는 다짐을 거듭한다.
