A cappella group 'Raoul' releases first digital single 'Smart Woman'

Korea's only 7-member male a cappella group 'Raoul' has finally released their first digital single. Raoul, finalized in December 2010, is a group receiving much love by rearranging black music (their main genre) as well as pop and popular songs familiar to the ears of the general public into a cappella.

The digital single 'Smart Woman' released this time is a self-composed song by leader Yeon Gyu-hwan, expressing dissatisfaction with a lover who is usually excessively self-centered. It has somewhat comical and childish content, sarcastically calling a lover who always thinks her own words are right a 'smart woman.' It is a song that gives an even more cheerful feeling by bringing out groove with a shuffle-based hip-hop rhythm over a melody that catches the ear at once like a children's song.

Currently, Raoul is working hard recording in preparation for their 1st full-length album to be released in September–October. This 'Smart Woman' digital single is in essence a pre-release digital single for the full-length album. After listening to the music of 'Smart Woman,' one can look forward to the upcoming full-length album. In particular, it is characterized by the fact that all songs are original compositions rather than cover songs, which is rare for a domestic a cappella group album. In order to break down the wall against this music (a cappella) that is still somewhat unfamiliar, Raoul is striving to present a cappella music with new attempts that differentiate from existing vibes.

During their 1.5-year activity period since formation, they have maintained a steady performance record of about 100 times, including the hybrid musical 'Bibim in Seoul,' various events, invited performances, and cultural shows; the emotion and charm given by music created solely with Raoul's voices on stage are not easily forgotten.

They expressed that they want to release this moving stage as an album to further promote the charm of a cappella to many people.

아카펠라 그룹 [라울], 첫 디지털 싱글 [똑똑한 여자] 발표

국내 유일의 남성7인조 아카펠라 그룹 [라울]이 드디어 첫 디지털 싱글을 발표했다. 2010년 12월에 최종 결성 된 라울은, 주 장르인 흑인음악을 비롯하여 많은 대중들의 귀에 익숙할 만한 팝과 가요를 아카펠라로 재 편곡하여 많은 사랑을 받고 있는 그룹이다.

이번에 발표한 디지털 싱글 [똑똑한 여자]는 리더 연규환의 자작곡으로 평소 너무 자기 중심적인 성향이 강한 애인에 대한 불만을 호소하는 곡이다. 항상 자신의 말이 옳은 애인을 [똑똑한 여자]라며 비꼬아대는, 다소 코믹하며 유치한 내용이다. 한번에 들려오는 동요 같은 멜로디에 셔플을 기반으로 한 힙합 리듬으로 그루브를 살려 더욱 경쾌한 느낌을 주는 곡이다.

현재 라울은 9~10월에 발매 될 정규 1집의 준비로 열심히 녹음 중이다. 이번 똑똑한 여자 디지털 싱글은 정규앨범의 선 공개 디지털 싱글 인 샘이다. 똑똑한 여자의 음악을 듣고 후에 나올 정규 앨범을 기대해 볼 수 있다. 특히, 국내 아카펠라 그룹 앨범으로는 드물게 모든 곡이 커버 곡이 아닌 자작곡이라는 것이 특징이다. 아직은 조금 생소한 이 음악(아카펠라)에 대한 벽을 허물기 위해, 기존의 느낌과는 차별화 되고 새로운 시도의 아카펠라 음악을 선보이려 노력하고 있는 라울 이다.

결성 뒤 1년 반이란 활동 기간 동안 하이드리브 뮤지컬 [비빔 in Seoul] 을 비롯하여 각종 행사, 초청공연, 문화공연 등 약 100여회의 꾸준한 공연 기록을 가지고 있으며, 무대에서 라울의 목소리로만 만들어진 음악이 주는 감동과 매력은 쉽게 잊혀지지 않는다.

이 감동의 무대를 음반으로 발매하여 많은 사람들에게 아카펠라의 매력을 더욱 알리고 싶다고 하였다.
