The Christmas Carol Album by A Cappella Group 'Zenith' – "Christmas Time"
December 2012. Following their first single 'Giant Tree', Zenith (ZENITH) has returned with a Christmas carol album. Singing that being there for each other gives strength through their first released track 'Giant Tree', Zenith has been actively promoting this year, including appearances on terrestrial TV (SBS Running Man 'Superpower Karaoke' episode) and cable programs (Mnet The Enemy of Broadcasting - in the role of John Acappella).
Putting forward attractive vocals and unique characters as their weapons, Zenith strove to capture Zenith's own carol atmosphere that is cheerful yet romantic, as fitting for this album's Christmas concept. It is also their feeling of gratitude toward Zenith's fans who love a cappella as they look back on the year while running forward without forgetting their grand dream of 'Let's bring on the golden age of Korean a cappella!'
In this album, musical maturity stands out under the direction of Baekseok University Department of Applied Music professor Kim Hye-neung, who won the Grand Prize at the Yoo Jae-ha Music Contest, was active as the leader of co-ed jazz vocal group Green Tea, and produced the 1st album of male vocal group Sweet Sorrow. The original song 'Christmas Time (At Christmas)' is included in a total of 3 tracks—an a cappella version, an MR version, and an instrumental version—along with the exciting 'Christmas Carol Medley' and a new version of their first released single track 'Giant Tree', comprising a total of 7 tracks.
While singing of a romantic Christmas, the title track 'Christmas Time (At Christmas)' also speaks of a love that feels somewhat aching when looking at the scattering white snow on a cold windy winter day, something anyone who has ever loved can relate to at least once. Past memories that come to mind on Christmas, when everyone is having a happy time, bring a faint smile to one's lips as one suddenly gets lost in happy recollections from somewhere deep within the heart.
'Christmas Carol Medley' is a Zenith-style carol medley that will make Christmas even richer and more enjoyable. By delightfully and cheerfully weaving together well-known carol songs, it will deliver a fresh enjoyment heard purely through a cappella that is distinct from previous carol medleys.
It is also noteworthy that a new version of 'Giant Tree' is included in this album. When the time to wrap up the year arrives, Zenith seems to convey through this song the beauty of thinking of precious and thankful people and sharing those feelings. While somewhat simpler than the original song, it has become warmer and more affectionate.
아카펠라 그룹 제니스의 크리스마스 캐럴 앨범 [Christmas Time]
2012년 12월. 첫 싱글 [자이언트 트리] 이후, 제니스(ZENITH)가 크리스마스 캐럴 앨범으로 돌아왔다. 제니스는 첫 음원 '자이언트 트리'로 서로가 있음이 힘이 됨을 노래해오며 공중파(SBS 런닝맨 '초능력 노래방' 편)와 케이블 프로그램(Mnet 방송의 적 - 존아카펠라役)에 출연하는 등 올 한 해 활발한 활동을 해왔다.
매력적인 보컬과 개성 있는 캐릭터를 무기로 앞세운 제니스는 이번 앨범이 크리스마스 컨셉인 만큼 경쾌하고도 로맨틱한, 제니스만의 캐럴 분위기를 담아내려고 노력했다. '한국 아카펠라의 전성기를 몰고 오자!'는 커다란 꿈을 잊지 않고 달려가는 동안 한 해를 돌아보며 아카펠라를 사랑해주시는 제니스의 팬들을 위한 감사의 마음이기도 하다.
이번 앨범에는 유재하 가요제 대상을 수상하고, 혼성 재즈 보컬그룹 그린티의 리더로 활동하였으며, 남성 보컬 그룹 스윗소로우(Sweet Sorrow)의 1집 프로듀서이자, 백석대학교 실용음악과 교수 김혜능의 디렉팅으로 음악적인 성숙이 돋보인다. 창작곡 'Christmas Time(크리스마스에는)'은 아카펠라 버전, MR 버전, 연주 버전까지 총 3개의 트랙으로, 신나는 '크리스마스 캐럴 메들리', 첫 싱글 음원이었던 '자이언트 트리(Giant Tree)'의 새로운 버전 등 총 7곡이 수록되어 있다.
타이틀 곡 'Christmas Time(크리스마스에는)'은 로맨틱한 크리스마스를 노래하면서도 사랑을 해 본 사람이면 누구나 한 번쯤 공감하는 찬 바람 부는 겨울 날 흩날리는 하얀 눈을 보며 어딘가 아려오는 사랑을 이야기했다. 모두가 행복한 시간을 보내는 크리스마스에 떠오르는 지나간 추억은 가슴 깊은 곳 어딘가에서 문득 행복했던 회상에 잠겨 입가에 엷은 미소를 띠게 한다.
'크리스마스 캐럴 메들리'는 크리스마스를 더욱 풍요롭고 즐겁게 만들어 줄 제니스표 캐럴 메들리이다. 많이 알려진 캐럴송들을 유쾌하고 명랑하게 엮어 내어 이 전의 캐럴 메들리들과는 또 다른 아카펠라로만 듣는 신선한 재미를 선사할 것이다.
'자이언트 트리(Giant Tree)'의 새로운 버전이 이번 앨범에 수록되어 있는 것도 주목할 만하다. 한 해를 마감하는 시점이 돌아오면, 소중하고 감사했던 사람들을 떠올리며 그 마음을 전하는 아름다움을 제니스는 이 노래로 말해주고 있는 듯하다. 원곡보다는 어딘가 소박하지만 보다 따뜻하고 정겨워졌다.
